Dundee Exclusive Pre-Release of FINDING CC

Hosted and co-ordinated by Kirsty Miller, Dundee showed exactly why it was chosen as the domain for the Exclusive Pre-Release of this book: deep passion, incredible talent and a fierce musical intelligence.  The night took place at The Dungeon, a little known gem of a venue on Princes Street, Dundee now trademarked with a twenty foot mural of Tupac Shakur's face by Dundonian graffiti artist, Syke.  Inside, the immaculate club felt like a more friendly version of the windowless Death Row Offices with red and black the colour scheme and welcoming staff. No aggro, lots of entertainment and probably the best hip hop DJ (Butterscotch) north of Nottingham spinning beats from 1983 to recent releases.  Addicted2Dance's Laura Nesbitt created a fierce piece of musical narrative and choreography executed by hip hop dancers, The Bhaddest - a six minute tribute to the myths and legacy of hip hop. Spoken word poet Gemma Sailor aka Gemma Jay belted out three of her poems: 'Legalise', 'A Letter to Humanity' and 'Dundee Partyscene' with dynamic expression and local favourite vocalist, India Rose, sang her touching tribute to her lost father in 'Soldier' before hitting her own grime track 'Party Tonight'.  Freestyling Gimick took over then, rapping effortlessly over three tracks before accomplished professional MC Shifty headlined the night with incessant flows and cuts.  Kirsty introduced each act with a precision only she could know - as the entire event was curated by her.  And Nina Bhadreshwar got to tell the story she will never share to the masses-online to a hearty response. Books were sold and a creative fire started.  Keep it burning, Dundee!
